Walt Disney Concert Hall Ticket Deals, Tips & To Do’s
One thing you have to love about big cities like Los Angeles is they have huge cultural centers with amazing architecture, like Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Its cool curved stainless steel panels, warm fir and cedar auditorium, and out-of-this-world acoustics make it a favorite venue for LA locals and visitors.
Walt Disney Concert Hall is part of the Music Center complex in downtown LA’s historic Bunker Hill area. The gorgeous 2,265-seat performing arts venue, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, is said to be one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world.
Designed in a “vineyard” style, the seats surround the stage on all four sides.
I love going to performances here for several reasons. First, despite the auditorium size, the open platform stage and seating-in-the-round make the view from most seats better than you’d expect.
Second, the rich sound is incredible, and something you have to hear for yourself.
Third, the interior design reminds me of a wooden ship (perfect since the exterior looks like silver sails). And the huge hand-crafted pipe organ is adds a nice touch.
The Hall includes the Blue Ribbon Garden, which you can wander around for free. Also, before a performance you can walk out onto the top level balcony for a great view of downtown Los Angeles.
On my bucket list is to go back and take a guided tour of Walt Disney Concert Hall. A docent leads these hour-long tours through the interior spaces and gardens and tells you the story of the place.
The guided tour doesn’t include the auditorium, though, which is usually busy with rehearsals, performances and special events. For that you really need to attend a performance.
I always check for ticket deals first via a few select ticket sources that work with WDCH to make special offers available for certain performances throughout the year.
